One of the key culprits of aging is Inflammation — Chronic Inflammation to be exact. Some scientists even believe that chronic inflammation can lead to heart disease, arthritis, diabetes and a host of other age related maladies.

So what does this have to do with skin care and wrinkles? Well, our skin is merely a reflection of what is happening inside our bodies. You can easily tell a healthy person from an un-healthy one by merely looking at their skin.

I am a big proponent that health and beauty starts from within. I heard it said that if you do not go with-in, you go with-out. I firmly believe this with all my heart.

What I would like to share with you is how with a few simple changes on what you put in your body will go a long way in helping you look your absolute best.

Eating anti-oxidant rich foods and taking essential oils — fish oils to be precise will be the basis for fighting chronic inflammation and of course, maintaining beautiful wrinkle free skin.

Anti-oxidant rich foods are very easy to spot, they have vibrant colors. Dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale, broccoli, asparagus are all loaded with anti-oxidants and rank very low on the glycemic index which is beneficial to maintaining your ideal blood-sugar level. A high blood sugar level releases insulin which in turn produces inflammatory chemicals.  And inflammation is our enemy because it aids in premature aging.

Other foods that contain lots of anti-oxidants are fruits such as blueberries, strawberries, cantaloupe and honeydew melons, kiwi, peaches, pears and plums.

Now, for your protein fresh fish and poultry are a very good source of high quality protein. Quality protein helps make your skin glow and gives you healthier hair. As for red meat, if you cannot avoid it entirely, you must limit it severely because it encourages inflammation.

Protein is vital for repairing our cells due to the constant damage done to it by free radicals, another aging culprit. However, it is important to get the right protein and this is where fish should be a staple in your diet.

Fish such as salmon, mackerel, snapper, bass, trout, and herring are among the ones that carry the omega-3 essential fatty acids that our bodies require. Essential fatty acids or EFA is very important for our health. Our cells are unable to synthesize these and therefore it must be supplied from our diets. If you are not a big fan of fish or unable to include it regularly to your diet then, you definitely want to take a quality supplement that can provide you with these essential oils. (see below for my recommendation)

Omega-3 fish oil is very important because it stops inflammation. Understand our goal is to slow down the aging process by stopping chronic inflammation and fish oils is a key factor to achieving that goal.

By incorporating some of these foods in your diet, you can severely slow the aging process and your skin will thank you for it by providing you with a healthy, youthful glow. Not to mention the wonderful energy you will get, as a side benefit.

What do Sean Connery, Clark Gable, Cary Grant, Pierce Brosnan and even Brad Pitt has that makes them suave and refined? You wouldn’t have guessed it – Wrinkles! Deep eye wrinkles and Deep forehead wrinkles.

Yes, I know life is not fair. Face wrinkles for some reason makes men look more sophisticated, dashing, dare I say — even cultured. Yet, to women it is anything but…

So what do you do, you ask?  Well, if you’re like me you follow these 9 simple steps and it will be like growing old in reverse just like in the movie, Benjamin Button.

  1.  As always, I recommend you start with proper nutrition. A diet rich in vegetables, fruits (cantaloupe and honeydew), fish (salmon is ideal), and lean meats will help make your skin moist and smooth.
  2.  Take vitamins and mineral supplements to combat the Free Radicals, Glycation, Methylation, and Inflammation, the 4 main causes of aging.
  3. Lots of liquids such as green tea, acia juice and juices rich in vitamin-C. (if you’re a heavy coffee drinker, you have to cut back. Think of it this way not only am I helping you look your best but I am also helping you save some money, especially in this economy. You’re welcome!)
  4. The power of sleep. Every time I do not get enough sleep my eyes are always the first ones to suffer. Nothing makes you look older than bags, dark circles and wrinkles on your eyes.  Restful sleep is a key factor, it is the time when your body goes to work repairing the day-to-day wear tear you put upon it.
  5. Exercise. Regular exercise increases blood flow and oxygen to your skin. Plus, when you sweat it pushes out the toxins, dirt, dead skin cells and excess sebum from your face and body. Plus it tones your muscles which would look good on your youthful skin.
  6. Use an eye cream or gel that is rich in vitamins and minerals such as Co-enzymeQ10 and vitamin-e along with natural emollients which helps soften the skin around the eyes.
  7. Use a restorative night cream with natural ingredients that softens, revitalize and moisturizes your skin while you sleep.
  8. A good hydrating and cleansing mask that you use once or twice a month. You want your skin to be able to breathe freely free from toxins. That’s what a good mask should be able to do for you.
  9. Discipline to follow the above 8 steps.

The steps I outlined are simple but it takes effort and discipline on your part. Unless you would rather look like Sean Connery then you can forget everything. But wouldn’t you rather look like a Bond girl than James Bond?

A quick search on the definition of MASK gave me the following results…

A covering worn on the face to conceal one’s identity, as:

  • A covering, as of cloth, that has openings for the eyes, entirely or partly conceals the face, and is worn especially at a masquerade ball.
  • A grotesque or comical representation of a face, worn especially to frighten or amuse, as at Halloween.
  • A facial covering worn for ritual.
  • A figure of a head worn by actors in Greek and Roman drama to identify a character or trait and to amplify the voice.

Bear with me here. As we grow older our body’s ability to repair itself slows-down significantly. And due to this slowing down process, less collagen is produced and we lose elasticity to our skin which results in dryness or dehydration of the skin hence, producing wrinkles.

This is the most technical I want to get on this because if you’re like me, you want the simplest explanation to a problem followed by a proven solution.

So what is the solution?

What I found to be a great solution is using a mask; A wrinkle mask.  But unlike our definition of masks above which is designed to conceal one’s identity, our mask is designed not to conceal but to bring about or bring back our true identity.

It is unfortunate that as we grow older many become embarrassed on how they look and this especially applies to women. Now we cannot stop the aging process but we sure can slow it down.

The key factor here is hydration. The better hydrated your skin the firmer and softer it will look.  Wrinkle lines will begin to be filled in giving you that healthy youthful appearance.

As always, begin with a good proper diet.  Lots of fish such as salmon, vegetable salads and fruits like cantaloupe. Foods such as these helps make your skin moist and supple.

As for the mask, you want to use one that can increase firmness and restore elasticity. A mask rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids is ideal in this case. Again, your overall goal here is hydration so limit your sun exposure or make sure you use some type of sun block, if being exposed to the sun for long periods of time.

You will confront dehydration both internally through foods that provides lots of moisture to your skin and externally using masks that also provides moisture rich minerals to your skin.  Lastly, do not forget to drink enough water throughout the day.

These solutions are simple and easy but just because they are do not discount their effectiveness. Many of life’s great problems have simple solutions and getting rid of wrinkles is definitely one of them.

Unless you are stranded on an island without any hope of being rescued, it’s okay not to care about wrinkles or age lines, age spots, and the many other skin ailments your face will encounter as a result of aging.

But for women living in the 21st century, it is perfectly okay to have a healthy obsession to looking your best, feeling your best, and pursuing beautiful healthy skin for the rest of your life.

It is great to be living in the times where great skin can be had in an instant, where instant wrinkle removers are merely a jar or tube away.

Don’t get me wrong, I have always believed that beautiful skin starts from within – what we put in our bodies…good nutrition, vitamins and supplements, lots of liquids (specifically water) however, our skin also benefits greatly on what we do outside of it as well.

Now to attain beautiful youthful skin is really not that complicated. Most of us already know that smoking, lack of sleep, too much alcohol, poor nutrition, lack of exercise and vitamins and supplements will put is on the fast lane to aging.

Therefore, the reverse is also true. A good diet rich in vegetables, fruits, fish, lean meats plus lots of liquids coupled with vitamins and supplements and moderate exercise will form the foundation to a healthy youthful skin.

Once you have your foundation, then you can tackle healing and caring for your skin by using a quality skin product that contains specific ingredients which are beneficial to your skin.  Ingredients such as Alpha-Lipoic acid, Vitamin-C, DMAE, Cynergy-TK, Hyaluronic acid, Co-Enzyme Q10 and many more.  Such ingredients have been proven to help skin become softer, smoother, healthier and younger-looking.

Our body is a thing of wonder. Give it the proper tools it will build you beautiful skin you can enjoy for the rest of your life and one that rivals that of legendary Cleopatra’s.

As I said, winning the battle in maintaining youthful, healthy skin is not complicated. A little common sense goes a long way. Build your foundation first then use proven quality skin product and you would have beautiful wrinkle free skin that people will envy.
