One of the key culprits of aging is Inflammation — Chronic Inflammation to be exact. Some scientists even believe that chronic inflammation can lead to heart disease, arthritis, diabetes and a host of other age related maladies.

So what does this have to do with skin care and wrinkles? Well, our skin is merely a reflection of what is happening inside our bodies. You can easily tell a healthy person from an un-healthy one by merely looking at their skin.

I am a big proponent that health and beauty starts from within. I heard it said that if you do not go with-in, you go with-out. I firmly believe this with all my heart.

What I would like to share with you is how with a few simple changes on what you put in your body will go a long way in helping you look your absolute best.

Eating anti-oxidant rich foods and taking essential oils — fish oils to be precise will be the basis for fighting chronic inflammation and of course, maintaining beautiful wrinkle free skin.

Anti-oxidant rich foods are very easy to spot, they have vibrant colors. Dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale, broccoli, asparagus are all loaded with anti-oxidants and rank very low on the glycemic index which is beneficial to maintaining your ideal blood-sugar level. A high blood sugar level releases insulin which in turn produces inflammatory chemicals.  And inflammation is our enemy because it aids in premature aging.

Other foods that contain lots of anti-oxidants are fruits such as blueberries, strawberries, cantaloupe and honeydew melons, kiwi, peaches, pears and plums.

Now, for your protein fresh fish and poultry are a very good source of high quality protein. Quality protein helps make your skin glow and gives you healthier hair. As for red meat, if you cannot avoid it entirely, you must limit it severely because it encourages inflammation.

Protein is vital for repairing our cells due to the constant damage done to it by free radicals, another aging culprit. However, it is important to get the right protein and this is where fish should be a staple in your diet.

Fish such as salmon, mackerel, snapper, bass, trout, and herring are among the ones that carry the omega-3 essential fatty acids that our bodies require. Essential fatty acids or EFA is very important for our health. Our cells are unable to synthesize these and therefore it must be supplied from our diets. If you are not a big fan of fish or unable to include it regularly to your diet then, you definitely want to take a quality supplement that can provide you with these essential oils. (see below for my recommendation)

Omega-3 fish oil is very important because it stops inflammation. Understand our goal is to slow down the aging process by stopping chronic inflammation and fish oils is a key factor to achieving that goal.

By incorporating some of these foods in your diet, you can severely slow the aging process and your skin will thank you for it by providing you with a healthy, youthful glow. Not to mention the wonderful energy you will get, as a side benefit.

What do Sean Connery, Clark Gable, Cary Grant, Pierce Brosnan and even Brad Pitt has that makes them suave and refined? You wouldn’t have guessed it – Wrinkles! Deep eye wrinkles and Deep forehead wrinkles.

Yes, I know life is not fair. Face wrinkles for some reason makes men look more sophisticated, dashing, dare I say — even cultured. Yet, to women it is anything but…

So what do you do, you ask?  Well, if you’re like me you follow these 9 simple steps and it will be like growing old in reverse just like in the movie, Benjamin Button.

  1.  As always, I recommend you start with proper nutrition. A diet rich in vegetables, fruits (cantaloupe and honeydew), fish (salmon is ideal), and lean meats will help make your skin moist and smooth.
  2.  Take vitamins and mineral supplements to combat the Free Radicals, Glycation, Methylation, and Inflammation, the 4 main causes of aging.
  3. Lots of liquids such as green tea, acia juice and juices rich in vitamin-C. (if you’re a heavy coffee drinker, you have to cut back. Think of it this way not only am I helping you look your best but I am also helping you save some money, especially in this economy. You’re welcome!)
  4. The power of sleep. Every time I do not get enough sleep my eyes are always the first ones to suffer. Nothing makes you look older than bags, dark circles and wrinkles on your eyes.  Restful sleep is a key factor, it is the time when your body goes to work repairing the day-to-day wear tear you put upon it.
  5. Exercise. Regular exercise increases blood flow and oxygen to your skin. Plus, when you sweat it pushes out the toxins, dirt, dead skin cells and excess sebum from your face and body. Plus it tones your muscles which would look good on your youthful skin.
  6. Use an eye cream or gel that is rich in vitamins and minerals such as Co-enzymeQ10 and vitamin-e along with natural emollients which helps soften the skin around the eyes.
  7. Use a restorative night cream with natural ingredients that softens, revitalize and moisturizes your skin while you sleep.
  8. A good hydrating and cleansing mask that you use once or twice a month. You want your skin to be able to breathe freely free from toxins. That’s what a good mask should be able to do for you.
  9. Discipline to follow the above 8 steps.

The steps I outlined are simple but it takes effort and discipline on your part. Unless you would rather look like Sean Connery then you can forget everything. But wouldn’t you rather look like a Bond girl than James Bond?

A quick search on the definition of MASK gave me the following results…

A covering worn on the face to conceal one’s identity, as:

  • A covering, as of cloth, that has openings for the eyes, entirely or partly conceals the face, and is worn especially at a masquerade ball.
  • A grotesque or comical representation of a face, worn especially to frighten or amuse, as at Halloween.
  • A facial covering worn for ritual.
  • A figure of a head worn by actors in Greek and Roman drama to identify a character or trait and to amplify the voice.

Bear with me here. As we grow older our body’s ability to repair itself slows-down significantly. And due to this slowing down process, less collagen is produced and we lose elasticity to our skin which results in dryness or dehydration of the skin hence, producing wrinkles.

This is the most technical I want to get on this because if you’re like me, you want the simplest explanation to a problem followed by a proven solution.

So what is the solution?

What I found to be a great solution is using a mask; A wrinkle mask.  But unlike our definition of masks above which is designed to conceal one’s identity, our mask is designed not to conceal but to bring about or bring back our true identity.

It is unfortunate that as we grow older many become embarrassed on how they look and this especially applies to women. Now we cannot stop the aging process but we sure can slow it down.

The key factor here is hydration. The better hydrated your skin the firmer and softer it will look.  Wrinkle lines will begin to be filled in giving you that healthy youthful appearance.

As always, begin with a good proper diet.  Lots of fish such as salmon, vegetable salads and fruits like cantaloupe. Foods such as these helps make your skin moist and supple.

As for the mask, you want to use one that can increase firmness and restore elasticity. A mask rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids is ideal in this case. Again, your overall goal here is hydration so limit your sun exposure or make sure you use some type of sun block, if being exposed to the sun for long periods of time.

You will confront dehydration both internally through foods that provides lots of moisture to your skin and externally using masks that also provides moisture rich minerals to your skin.  Lastly, do not forget to drink enough water throughout the day.

These solutions are simple and easy but just because they are do not discount their effectiveness. Many of life’s great problems have simple solutions and getting rid of wrinkles is definitely one of them.

Unless you are stranded on an island without any hope of being rescued, it’s okay not to care about wrinkles or age lines, age spots, and the many other skin ailments your face will encounter as a result of aging.

But for women living in the 21st century, it is perfectly okay to have a healthy obsession to looking your best, feeling your best, and pursuing beautiful healthy skin for the rest of your life.

It is great to be living in the times where great skin can be had in an instant, where instant wrinkle removers are merely a jar or tube away.

Don’t get me wrong, I have always believed that beautiful skin starts from within – what we put in our bodies…good nutrition, vitamins and supplements, lots of liquids (specifically water) however, our skin also benefits greatly on what we do outside of it as well.

Now to attain beautiful youthful skin is really not that complicated. Most of us already know that smoking, lack of sleep, too much alcohol, poor nutrition, lack of exercise and vitamins and supplements will put is on the fast lane to aging.

Therefore, the reverse is also true. A good diet rich in vegetables, fruits, fish, lean meats plus lots of liquids coupled with vitamins and supplements and moderate exercise will form the foundation to a healthy youthful skin.

Once you have your foundation, then you can tackle healing and caring for your skin by using a quality skin product that contains specific ingredients which are beneficial to your skin.  Ingredients such as Alpha-Lipoic acid, Vitamin-C, DMAE, Cynergy-TK, Hyaluronic acid, Co-Enzyme Q10 and many more.  Such ingredients have been proven to help skin become softer, smoother, healthier and younger-looking.

Our body is a thing of wonder. Give it the proper tools it will build you beautiful skin you can enjoy for the rest of your life and one that rivals that of legendary Cleopatra’s.

As I said, winning the battle in maintaining youthful, healthy skin is not complicated. A little common sense goes a long way. Build your foundation first then use proven quality skin product and you would have beautiful wrinkle free skin that people will envy.

To continue where we left off…

Glycation is even more dangerous to your health than free radicals.  The process of glycation is complex, but basically, it interferes with the cells’ ability to get the amino acids that they need from the protein-rich foods that you eat.

The digestive system breaks down large protein molecules into smaller amino acids, which are then re-combined to form the different proteins that are needed to create cells, fibers, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, joints and bones. When Glycating agents, which are primarily simple carbohydrates and sugars, interfere with this process, cellular reproduction slows down.

The result is pain, muscular weakness, fatigue and eventually chronic disease.  As antioxidants prevent free radical damage, carnosine, an amino acid complex, prevents glycation and is an effective anti-aging therapy.

Methylation is something like the opposite of glycation.  Methylation is essential to life and if it is not working at optimum levels, you’ll start to have health problems, which may include heart disease, liver disease, depression and high cholesterol.

The body’s methylation processes naturally slow down due to age, disease and malnourishment.  To restore the balance, the necessary nutrients include the B vitamins, folic acid, Tri-methyl-glycine (TMG) and SAM-e.  The importance of SAM-e to improve methylation is significant.  But, most supplements that contain it are ineffective, because stomach acid renders it inactive.  A supplement must have what is called an enteric coating that allows it to pass through the stomach and into the small intestine, where it can be broken down and enter the bloodstream where it goes to work.

Your daily multi-vitamin probably contains some antioxidants and B-vitamins, but very few supplements on the market contain antioxidants like: flavonoids, alpha lipoic acid, turmeric, glutathione, resveratrol, B-vitamins, carnosine, TMG and SAM-e.  An enteric coating is rarely included, because it costs more.

The importance of carnosine, resveratrol, TMG and SAM-e are not heavily advertised, because…again…they are expensive ingredients.  A pharmaceutical company is about to release their own line of resveratrol supplements, although they are calling them prescription drugs.  Those of us that pay attention to research concerning unique nutritional supplements have been taking resveratrol for years and will continue to do so, without paying the price that the pharmaceutical company will charge.

There is another problem with most vitamin supplements on the market.  The antioxidants that they contain are synthetic, not natural.  The synthetic versions of vitamins are “similar” to those found in nature, but they are not “identical” and they do not provide the same health benefits.

For example, numerous studies have shown the health benefits of vitamin E in the prevention of free radical damage, the improvement of circulation, for tissue repair, to reduce inflammation and reduce the risk of cancer.  But, when researchers try to duplicate these results, using the synthetic form of vitamin E, it cannot be done.  In fact, synthetic vitamin E may actually be bad for your health, because it is derived from toxic petroleum byproducts.

The bottom line is that most supplement companies do not use the correct form of a nutrient (natural) and they do not use the correct delivery system, which, in most cases, is a tablet with an enteric coating.

Here’s where things get good. Through years of research and being a health-buff, I have found one nutritional supplement that offers everything discussed here so far.

Over the years, I have thrown away bottle after bottle or simply pushed it to the back of the shelf.  Not only were they ineffective, some of them, like B-vitamins without an enteric coating, actually made me feel sick until I stopped.

I say stop wasting money…get healthier…and possibly extend your life span.  The benefits of each of the 76 diffe rent supplements are explained in great detail at this companys nutritional supplement site .  Visit their site and learn more.  With no exaggeration, it could be the best thing that you ever do for your health.

Let’s face it, almost everybody wants to live a long, healthy life. But, maintaining the strict dietary and exercise regimen needed to do this isn’t so easy.

One of the best ways to “cheat,” however, is to include a powerful nutritional supplement as part of your daily routine. It’s a lot easier to take a high quality supplement everyday than to avoid all fast food, eat spinach around the clock, and devote 2 hours a day to exercise

If you’re health conscious at all then you probably already take a daily multi-vitamin.  That might be a good start – if it contains the right type of nutrients, and if the manufacturer uses the right delivery system, so that the nutrients are released in the right place at the right time.

A daily nutritional supplement is important because the foods that we eat (even if we try to eat healthy) are not nearly as nutritious as they once were. This is simply a result of modern farming practices. Many studies show that even healthy foods like spinach, tomatoes, corn, potatoes, and other crops, have a great deal less vitamin and mineral content than they did 30, 40, and 50 years ago, because of the way foods are farmed, which affects the soil they are raised in.

To make matters worse, many respected doctors, scientists and researchers believe that most chronic and life-threatening diseases are caused by nutritional deficiencies or imbalances.

Everything within the body is about balance.  Too much of one substance, and not enough of another, throws that balance off.  This causes damage to the cells of the body and leads to aging.  For example, free radical molecules perform some necessary functions within the cells of the body, but without the balancing presence of antioxidants, they go “hay-wire” and start damaging DNA strands.  This DNA damage is one of the causes of aging, but it is not the only cause.

Chronic inflammation, another example, had been linked to a variety of health problems.  Arthritis is an obvious one, but heart disease and cancer are also caused by chronic inflammation.  Researchers have found that synthetic anti-inflammatory drugs are not effective against chronic inflammation, although they may provide some temporary relief from joint pain and other “symptoms” of inflammation.

Natural anti-inflammatory agents present in fruits, vegetables, fish and other foods can effectively fight chronic inflammation.  Other foods, such as high amounts of saturated and transfats, cause inflammation.  The nutrients needed to reduce and prevent inflammation include flavonoids, alpha lipoic acid, carnosine, turmeric, glutathione and resveratrol.

You may have heard of inflammation and the damaging effects of free radicals.  But, have you heard of glycation or methylation?

Did you know that that there are more than 200 viruses that can cause a cold. Some of the more common ones include rhinovirus, corona virus, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), influenza (flu) and para-influenza, and the most famous one as of late is the swine flu virus, each one with their own severity.

Influenza which is commonly mistaken merely as a severe cold due to their similarities of symptoms, is one of the more serious and contagious viruses around.  Many viruses can cause a cold but only a few can cause flu. Contrary to popular beliefs you cannot catch flu from cold temperatures. The Flu is more serious than a cold as it has the potential of leading to other complications such as pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, ear infection and even meningitis. A person with severely weakened immune system death is even probable.

Our immune system is a network of specialized cells that work to clear infection and to protect our body from the millions of bacteria and viruses we may be exposed to every day. Therefore it is best, if our immune system is at its strongest and performing at its best possible level, to be able to fight the many different types of bacteria and viruses no matter what its origin.

Due to the sheer number of viruses, currently there is no medical cure for colds. Therefore preventative measures that will strengthen your immune system have proven significantly successful and is generally the recommended route.

Our bone marrow produces immune cells which is called B-cell lymphocytes. These produce antibodies and attach to any foreign bodies in our system ready for their destruction. While T-cell lymphocytes, which are produced in our thymus attack and destroy any diseased cells and foreign bodies until any infection is cleared.

When our immune system is not working correctly due to poor nutrition, alcohol and drug abuse or exposure to toxins, its ability to fight off infections and diseases is greatly compromised. To ensure our immune system has the strength it needs to keep our body healthy and functioning optimally, we need to obtain all the nutrients we need to sustain good chemical, nutritional and hormonal balance, giving our natural defenses the tools and weapon it needs to combat any destructive foreign invaders within our body.

Common sense dictates that first we need to adopt good healthy eating habits. Eating processed foods have no nutritional value that can provide our bodies useful tools and immune weapons, so to speak. Only by eating the right kinds of foods and you know what I am talking about, can we give our body the helping hand it needs to boost our immune system.

Now, it would be great if we can get all the nutrients our bodies need from the foods we eat everyday but we know that is not reality. Therefore the only way to make sure we get the most optimized nutrition is to incorporate quality supplements into our diets.  Supplements that contain essential minerals, trace minerals, enzymes, vitamins, amino acids and specialty nutrients are vital in boosting and maintaining a strong immune system.

Catching a cold or even flu for most of us is inevitable. But by creating a strong immune system, we can be assured that our body’s defense system can handle almost anything thrown against it thus improving our quality of life. And isn’t that what we are all after?
